A
Little Bit About Christine
Christine
Anderson, an award winning classical pianist, is
the latest singer-songwriter to burst onto the LA
music scene. It is her unique fusion of classical masterpiece,
crafty piano pop, and provocative lyric that sets her
apart from other young female songstresses, and has her
poised to bridge an uncharted gap between the sounds of
the great concerts halls, Broadway, and pop radio.
Anderson began studying classical piano at the age of
nine, after sitting down to an instrument for the first
time ever and inexplicably knowing how to play. She began
performing and adjudicating almost immediately, serving
as the pianist for the Portland Youth Symphionetta and
collecting top Music Teachers Association awards and State
Syllabus Honors.
Educated
at home like Anton Bruckner, Felix Mendelssohn, Amadeus
Mozart, and Francis Poulenc, Anderson dedicated most of
her waking hours to the mastery of her music. Her innate
musical intuition naturally led her to compose, and in
1991, only months into her musical studies, she won 1st
Place in the WMTA Young Composers' Project with a Sonatina
for solo piano. A long string of other solo compositions
soon followed -- among them sonatas, polonaises, nocturnes,
and a concertino -- as well as a chamber symphony, a suite
of jazz duets, and a collection of works for string ensemble.
Her
passion for the masterworks was also fostered with fervor
as she built up an extensive repertoire of Mozart, Beethoven,
and Chopin, and began competing in and winning solo artist
and duo piano competitions across the Pacific Northwest.
Her exceptional technical execution, tremendous degree
of energy, and sheer speed at the keyboard belied her
young age, leading internationally acclaimed pianist Wladimir
Jan Kohanski to label her a child prodigy and to encourage
her exploration of Bach. Anderson subsequently entered
and won six Bach competition recognitions including two
consecutive Junior Bach Festival gold medals for her animated
performances of J.S. Bach's Preludes and Fugues.
Anderson
attended Scripps College for Women on full scholarship,
and received her Bachelor of Arts in Music under the tutelage
of famed concert pianist Dr. Hao Huang, holder of degrees
from Harvard University, the Juilliard School and the
State University of New York at Stony Brook. She also
earned a concentration in composition under the direction
of Dr. Bill Alves, resident composer at Harvey Mudd School
of Engineering.
Following
a series of appearances on MTV and Much Music, Anderson
has been performing industry showcases throughout Los
Angeles, and will be heading to New York after a summer
session in the studio.

A -
I got a
manager.
Q

What projects are you currently involved with?
A - I'm
always making new music. Writing it, recording, performing
it. And I'm getting ready to head back into the studio
next week to record a live summer session.
Q
- What has been your most memorable moment
as a musician?
A - Every minute
I am at my piano is the greatest moment of my life.
Q
- Is
there anything about you people don't know that may surprise
them?
A - Oh, sure.
But we're not going to go around talking about that now,

Q - Your
most frequently asked question is:
A - I'm often
asked how long I've played the piano, and if it's something
I found on my own or if I was forced to practice. The
answer is that I learned to play the piano the first time
I tried to do it. I was nine years old, and I've been
happily playing away ever since.

Q - What's your favorite food?

at their concert with a girlfriend when they told us they

locked us in their car and took us to some dope party
in Pomona. We literally had to run away from the party
with one of them at our heels.
