When
you hear the name George Lamond, you cannot help but thinking
of the 80's song, "Bad of the Heart". George Garcia,
(Lamond's real name), was born on February 25th, and was
raised in the Bronx
After
graduating from High School, he discovered a new genre of
music called "freestyle", and began to get involved
with it. George dropped his studies in architecture and
went for music/singing. In 1989, George pursued freestyle
music thanks to the influence of a young woman named Marilyn
Rodriguez, who composed songs for such freestyle artists
as Judy Torres. At the age of 19, George recorded "Bad
of the Heart," which turned out to be his first freestyle
hit, followed by "Where Does That Leave Love".
Following his success in "Freestyle", George decided
to concentrate on his "Spanish" albums. At the
launch of his first Spanish album, "Entrega",
it was no surprise that his single "Si Tú Te
Vas" was an instant hit. George Lamond is thrilled
about singing in a new genre, mainly because it is a part
of "him", and a part of "his culture".
George's
second album, entitled "GL", was released in January
2001. Several singles from the GL album have had great success.
The album contains twelve new songs, two of which are ballads.
We
just had to ask George about another freestyle album and
here's what he had to say, "Yes, Yes, Yes, freestyle
is beautiful music...that music is George Lamond. My next
salsa album will have some freestyle on it...and I'm planning
an English Freestyle album. So look out America, George
Is Back!."
And
our response to George is
.. "George WE
CAN'T WAIT!!!"
We
can tell you first hand that George is a "real"
person and an absolute pleasure to deal with, and we wish
him the best!!!! We hope you enjoy our interview with him
this month.
Be
sure to support George by going out and buying all of his
albums :)

A - I
guess the performance and how you carry ,is very important, you
have an image to uphold and you to take care of that very
much, your fans look up to you for inspiration.I feel I believe
in that so I make sure I carry myself in that unique way.
Q
- Who
do you look up to for inspiration, either for music or in
your personal life?
A - I
really can't say I look up to anyone for inspiration,One
must inspire themselves for results. What I do is model myself
after an individual who'll interest me in a different way,and
I take the steps to do whatever that individual does for
results.
Q
- What
sparked you to make the "crossover" to Spanish?
