As most of us agree, each day can pass by where we spot our common day occurrence cars, and then there are those days that we set our eyes on a real gem. The manufacturer Porsche has been producing exactly those type of cars; a real gem to our eyes. Kip's '88 930 however, is a living example that even though Porsche's styling and engineering may be close to perfection, there is always still room for improvement.

It's a marvel that even in '03, we can look back at a vehicle that was manufactured in the late '80s and admire it greatly. However, Kip's 930 hardly resembles that of the stock Slant Nose model. For handling purposes, Kip equipped the 930 with Bilstein coilovers accent with 22mm sway bars and front torsion bars. Polyurethane suspension bushings keep all the suspension components snug-tight, while an elevated rack and pinion allows this Porsche to reach a lower stance than normal. On each four corners of the Porsche lies 18" Kinesis wheels with 235/40 Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's in the front and the wider 295/35 fit in the rear. Behind each wheel lie the infamous Brembo "Big Red" 4 Piston aluminum calipers along with cross-drilled/vented rotors. Braking mods close off with the essential stainless steel braided brake lines.

Crawling into the cockpit of this 930, we quickly notice the factory Porsche seats were replaced for Recaro SRD's. Buckling in the driver and passenger are 5 point harnesses along with the Chromoly roll bar locking in everything tight. Stock door panels were swapped out in favor of light weight RS door panels, and a custom center console was installed along with a color keyed instrumentation package with an in dash 962 boost gauge. A MOMO steering wheel and shift knob were equipped solely for the driver's pleasure.

Before we crawled back out of the inside, we checked out the stereo of this bright Yellow Porsche. A Soundstream 2400watt system has left no remains of anything stock. A 12" Pioneer sub is mounted in a custom fabricated enclosure, powered by a dedicated 800watt amp. Pioneer mids and highs in custom pods fill the cockpit up with bright sounds powered by 2 800watt amps. A custom amp enclosure lies under the hood, while a Pioneer DEHP9400MP head unit is in easy access to the driver.

Tunes aside, we wanted to hear the real music that this car performs. Rumor had it that this car produced over 700hp at the wheels with a menacing 600+ ft/lbs of torque to boot. Starting off as a factory 282hp single turbo with CIS injection, Kip sent the car to Prototech of Ft. Lauderdale, where they basically demolished any remnants of the stock motor. He asked Prototech to do away with the factory intake manifold and turbo system, and started prodding deeper into the internals for some serious fun. The motor was built around the idea of higher boost levels. A bigger oil pump was first installed along with a modified engine oiling system to ensure the lubricants there when needed. The compression ratio was surprisingly raised for better boost response while custom cylinder head sealing rings, ported cylinder heads, and a custom 3-angle valve job was done in the head. New high rate valve springs along with custom cams (ideally designed for motronic system engine management) round off the internal top end parts. A complete motronic intake manifold and engine management from a factory 3.2 Carrera went straight into the car as well. Fuel was handled with larger injectors and a custom fuel pressure regulation system. All this power needed some control. In went an electronically adjustable boost controller and a custom programmed computer map to handle the 600+hp on boost. As any performance-minded enthusiasts knows, this much power, means lots of fuel, which also means more spark. A multiple spark discharge ignition system was installed along with 10mm capacitor style plug wires. Out from the motor pokes purpose built equal length manifolds with F1 style merge collectors to a Garrett Ballistic dual ball bearing twin turbo setup. Custom mounted "Tial" wastegates control pressure while free flowing dual 4" stainless steel exhaust system dumps out the fumes.

Take a deep breath while I finish off these mods...the engine is equipped with an in-dash air/fuel monitoring system. The huge intercooler is a 1350 CFM air-to-air, that's capable of flowing over 80lbs of air per minute! A custom cold air fed system was modified from the rear fenders for the dual turbo system. Last but not least, the drivetrain had to be modified to handle the intense boost power: a custom built light weight clutch and flywheel combo equals out over 2600lbs per square inch of clamp load.

Kip's 1988 Porsche 930 Slant NoseAll this speed and no beauty? Hardly! This 930 was stripped down to bare metal after a complete disassembly of the body shell. Epoxy primer was coated underneath the mixed chrome Yellow base with urethane clear. In the rear sits a RS 3.8 rear swing and euro style light-weight rear bumper cushions. Last but not least, the front spoiler was re-fabricated to accept the larger oil cooler, front brake cooling ducts, and the larger Hella 550 driving lights finish off the exterior mods.

Done right? Hell, what can we even compare it to!
