With
the huge JDM craze that has been surfing around the States
the last couple of years, it's always a rarity to see
a car that comes close to matching its Japanese counterpart
straight from the factory. However, Toyota unarguably
produces some of the most envied cars on the lands of
Japan; while some, when carried over to the States are
a little more subtle. The Supra has always been a popular
choice for a tuner vehicle, but with the halt of production
in recent years, it has been harder and harder to find
a shining Supra. Racing Zone Tampa's Adrian caught hold
of one of these gems a while back, and you all can view
it today in its completely converted form.
Starting
with a stock Red 1994 Supra Turbo, Adrian knew there were
many different routes to go when breaking down this vehicle,
only to rebuild it again. The Supra was devoted to its
undisputed speed and performance, and Adrian only stepped
it up a few notches from there. Popping the hood on this
Supra reveals a larger than life GReddy T88H single turbo
conversion. Alongside the huge turbo, the complete system
is supplemented by none other than GReddy-famed products:
GReddy Type-R wastegate, 2 Type-S BOV's, a GReddy Airinx
Filter, and a GReddy Pulley Kit. Up front behind the Bomex
front bumper lies a GReddy front mount intercooler. The
upgraded turbo conversion alone would fit most Supra owners
content, but Adrian decided to throw in some HKS 264 cams
along with HKS cam gears to liven up the motor even more.
All the exhaust is fumed out through a custom 4"
down pipe into stainless steel piping out back to an HKS
Racing Hyper Exhaust (102mm). Fuel is handled by none
other than HKS, which includes an HKS in-tank fuel pump,
HKS adjustable fuel pressure regulator and HKS fuel rail.
Additionally, GReddy 720cc injectors adorn that fuel rail.
To bring all 716hp to the ground (yes, 716@6500rpm!),
Adrian installed an HKS triple plate clutch.
No
heavily boosted car is complete without its electronics.
Again, GReddy was the company to be when setting the tunes
for this 2JZ. A GReddy Profec-B controls the boost while
a GReddy turbo timer ensures the safety of the turbo.
Gauges include a 60mm GReddy boost gauge, air/fuel gauge,
fuel pressure gauge, and a 52mm EGT gage. HKS supplies
the VPC (Vein pressure converter) along with the GCC -
graphic control computer. Kenny Bell Boost-APump along
with an ECU G Force upgrade completes all the electronics
that defines this power-heavy Supra.
Considering
that this car is driven to every show and to work sometimes,
Adrian installed only the best suspension and brakes components
to ensure a smooth daily driver. Front and rear TEIN coilovers
with upper pillow ball mounts complete the suspension
along with front and rear Cusco strut tower bars. In the
front, Project mU 6 piston calipers with huge 14"
two-piece rotors were installed to ensure stopping on
a dime, and in the rear it was toned down a bit with KVR
cross-drilled rotors. All brakes are enforced with Project
mU steel-braided lines.
The
wheels on the car are none other than the new Racing Hart
CR's in 19x8.5 variety up front and 19x10 variety in the
wide rear. Nitto NT555 rubber wraps all four rims, 245/35
in the front, and 275/30 in the rear.
As
noted above, the front of the Supra is adorned with a
Bomex front bumper, while the side has been flared out
by Veilside. Veilside side skirts complement the fender
flares, along with the Veilside rear valence and hood.
A Corvis GT wing finishes off the rear with a fierce stance.
Last
but not least, are some in car electronics and miscellaneous
accessories for the Supra. In car electronics include
a simple Pioneer head unit and EQ, while MB Quartz provides
the front and rear components. Rockford Fosgate amps power
the mids and highs along with two subs in a custom fiberglass
enclosure in the rear. Little accessories (that can't
be overlooked!) include a carbon fiber dash kit, GReddy
oil cap, GRedy oil catch can, radiator cap, and last but
not least, a GReddy Shift Knob.
Make sure you check out Adrian 's Supra at Racing Zone
Tampa, along with the car shows as it campaigns in the
2003 show season.
And
in the cockpit? Let's just say Kurt sits comfortably in
some Sparco seats while blasting down the street everyday
in this race prepped, street proven Civic.
