Five
years ago, if someone even so mentioned the word JUN and
Civic in the same sentence on the state side, it would
draw crowds...not of enthusiasts, but puzzles and questions.
JUN was something exotic, hardly even mentioned. If you
had a JUN product, it was definitely something to be proud
of. Fast forward five years later, not much has changed.
Sure, JUN has become a little more common stateside as
more and more companies import the products in, but nonetheless,
JUN is still a delicacy that has yet to be tasted by all.
Their company's reputation has been undisputedly one of
the best in the market. Personally, my own uncle had his
Galant VR-4 built and tuned by JUN Japan and now campaigns
throughout the China and Japan circuit as a full track
car. So not only is the fame of JUN on stateside, it's
acclaimed in Japan and sought out by many.
Kurt
was one of those enthusiasts that dreamed of JUN. He knew
the beauty and exoticness this company had to offer, especially
in Honda tuning. However, Kurt is different than the rest
of us that drool over JUN products. He is fortunate to
own a JUN built EK. Yes, this isn't any ordinary Civic,
this is the genuine JUN EK that has been reworked from
heads up, bumper to bumper by the crafty crafters of Japan
.
Considering
the rarity of the car, and its modifications, Kurt has
chosen to only unleash some of his modifications for obvious
reasons. Despite that though, this car is nothing to overlook.
The engine work is just immaculate, and no one comes close
to the beauty of it. Starting with a Jap Spec Type-R engine,
JUN of Japan stripped it down and reworked it for purely
all motor power - their specialty. Down bottom are JUN/Cosworth
Slugs radically bumping up the compression to 12:1. The
rods stayed Type-R spec as the bottom end was put back
together. Up top, the head was completely disassembled
and re worked by JUN. JUN Titanium retainers, and racing
valve springs adorn the internal headwork, while JUN Type-3
cams and JUN cam gears radically changes the VTEC changeover.
Enough
with the motor work...no...how can we stop just there?
This JUN Civic needed to breathe, so a DCSports intake
was installed along with a JUN exhaust manifold, and JUN
Type-S exhaust. Kurt however, has opted for the A'PEXi
World Sport system for street stealth. A JUN Sport ECU
programs the timing and fuel control while a JUN Hyper
Clutch Kit and lightened flywheel keeps the RPMS revving
and the tires chirping through the custom JUN gearbox
with modified final gear.
No
race car is completely without a finesse suspension system.
This
EK is equipped with none other than Tanabe's Road Race
Suspension while the car is dropped on 17" VOLK TE-37's,
a Japanese tuner's favorite lightweight wheel. Sponsored
by BFGoodrich, it's inevitable that the G-Force 205/40/17
tires wrap the white VOLKS. Last but not least, a few
aesthetic mods were placed here and there to keep this
EK different than the competition visually. A JUN aero
hood along with a rear aero wing was installed, with AfterHours
from California laying on the final blast of yellow and
green. Colors that no one will confuse and relate only
to JUN.
And
in the cockpit? Let's just say Kurt sits comfortably in
some Sparco seats while blasting down the street everyday
in this race prepped, street proven Civic.
